“Then as you stand or walk,
Sit or lie down,
As long as you are awake,
Strive for this with a one-pointed mind;
Your life will bring heaven to earth.”
–The Metta Sutta
Yin yoga, so named because of its correspondence to the Taoist concept of yin, is characterized by passive asanas held for several minutes each. It is the ideal method of physical conditioning for prolonged meditation. Over time, practice of yin yoga can lengthen tissues and increase range of motion.
Meditation is an ancient practice of concentration, mindfulness and acceptance. Over time, benefits of meditation include relaxation and stress control, lower blood pressure, pain management and enhanced immune function. Meditation alone quiets the mind. However when combined with yoga, it can yield even more benefit with an overall sense of peace and wellbeing.
This is an open-level class (not for absolute beginners to yoga). Modifications, adjustments and props will be provided as needed for your own level of flexibility and practice, along with clear instructions for guided meditation.
Start your week on Sundays with a calming, meditative yoga practice.
