This is a comprehensive class where beginners can learn the basics of yoga philosophy, postures (asanas), and breathing (pranayama). Classes are held in a yoga studio environment and will support building community and supporting individual empowerment. Instruction focuses on building an understanding of the principles of hatha yoga from a physical, mental, and spiritual standpoint. Safety and effectiveness of alignment in the postures will be emphasized, as well as the power and support of the breath. Introduction to the basic postures of vinyasa (flow) and Surya Namaskar (Sun Salute) may be included. This 6 week series will prepare students for basic and open level classes and is sequential in nature, so students are encouraged to attend all 6 classes.

Jee Young Moon has been teaching yoga for about ten years. Her studies began in Seoul, but her search for a mentor and deeper learning moved her to Hong Kong where she met western teachers that invited her to training workshops in Sri Lanka, Thailand, and eventually a teaching certification in Taipei. She later moved to Singapore where she met the teachers she considers most influential to her practice: Aadil Palkhivala, Tias Little, and Sarah Powers. Jee’s yoga, while informed by Buddhist and Taoist perspectives, is strongly based in anatomy and alignment and draws inspiration from those teachers.

After a couple years in Singapore working for yoga companies, Jee returned to her home in Seoul to be with her family before finally moving with her husband to St. Louis in 2010.
